Botulinum Toxin Type A

Botulinum Toxin Type A is still the “gold standard” in the treatment and prevention of facial wrinkles, we would typically use it to reduce the appearance of frown, forehead and crow’s feet wrinkles, and it can also be used to lift areas of the face such as eyebrows and can soften and lift the jowls.

Before & After

Video Techniques

This young patient wanted to start an ageing preventative treatment plan. Dr Alek Nikolic demonstrates and in-depth consultation and full face examination in this video highlighting the importance of taking time to understand each individuals goals and end treatment results. It was decided to start this patient on a good skin regime and a preventative Botulinum toxin regime to slow the ageing process but to still allow movement and a more natural effect. The frown, forehead, crow’s feet, and lower lid were treated. Dr Alek also treated the right eyebrow to create some lift and improve the symmetry between the two sides. By targeting static lines from muscle movement, Botulinum toxin helps rejuvenate the face and prevent deeper lines, making it a perfect option for both younger and older patients.

FAQ's

Botulinum toxin is a purified form of botulinum toxin type A, which temporarily paralyzes or relaxes muscles. When injected in small doses, it blocks nerve signals to muscles, reducing their ability to contract and softening the appearance of wrinkles.

Common areas for Botulinum toxin treatment include forehead lines, frown lines between the eyebrows, crow's feet around the eyes, bunny lines on the nose, and neck bands.

When administered by a trained professional, Botulinum toxin is considered safe. However, there can be risks and side effects, including temporary bruising, redness, or headache. Serious complications are rare but possible.

The effects of Botulinum toxin typically last around 3 to 6 months. Individual results may vary based on metabolism, muscle activity, and dosage administered.

Botulinum toxin injections are relatively quick and minimally invasive. The treatment involves a series of small injections with a fine needle into targeted muscles. Discomfort is usually minimal and well-tolerated.

Results may start becoming visible within a few days after treatment, with full effects appearing within 1 to 2 weeks.

It's generally advised to avoid vigorous exercise, alcohol, and extensive sun or heat exposure for 24 hours post-treatment. Also, refrain from rubbing or massaging the injected areas to prevent spreading the toxin.

Ideal candidates for Botulinum toxin are generally in good health with realistic expectations about the results. Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals, those with certain neuromuscular disorders, or allergies to Botulinum toxin components may not be suitable candidates.
