5 Things That Happen To Your Skin After Microneedling

Micro-needling, specifically the Dermapen 4 which we use in our practice, is one of the most popular skin rejuvenation treatments worldwide and for good reason. Not only can it drastically enhance the look and feel of the skin, but it can also do wonders on reducing acne marks, fine lines and wrinkles as it promotes deep dermal collagen production. The Dermapen 4 glides over the skin creating millions of fine fractional channels up to 104% faster than other microneedling devices. These channels can carry up to 80% more topical nutrients deeper into the skin which results in an increased production of collagen and elastin. There are few things to note before you get this treatment. Below are a few things that can happen to your skin after Micro-needling.

Your Skin May Feel Tight And Dry

Your skin will likely feel dehydrated after the treatment and will require intense moisture to heal correctly. It is recommended to use the hyaluronic acid serum or emollients, such as petrolatum or lanolin ointment for, two to three days. After a few days, you can resume your regular moisturizer.

You Might Notice Slight Peeling

Your skin can exfoliate for up to a week post-treatment, which may result in mild peeling, but this is not a cause for concern. This is a good sign because it shows enhanced cell turnover, and new skin is being generated.

You Might Have A Histamine Reaction

You could have a histamine reaction with micro-needling if you are prone to hay fever or have multiple allergies. This is quite normal and easy to treat with either oral antihistamines and or topical over the counter hydrocortisone creams and usually lasts 12 to 24 hours.

There May Be Some Minimally Visible Marks

Because micro-needling makes hundreds of safe and controlled micro-injuries on the skin’s surface, it is not uncommon to see some tiny marks on the skin after the procedure. However, there is no need to be concerned as these marks fade in a short period of time.

You May Break Out If you have acne-prone skin, you will want to let your skincare specialist know beforehand because micro-needling can cause breakouts. This is especially the case if there are active lesions on the skin surface-the treatment may make them even worse. While it can work wonders at improving acne scars, micro-needling can also spread bacteria. Therefore, it is always advisable to have an in-depth consultation beforehand for risk-free and effective micro-needling.
